Dramatic black and white is always a winning classic combination. In this family home in Melbourne, Australia by the interior design firm Hecker Guthrie the black hardware and lighting is really the feature that gives this space its edge. An elegant, classic space with a very modern contemporary feeling. The black faucets and taps in particular, I think, add a striking and unexpected contrast with the white carrera marble. Warm cognac leather, woven wicker seating and greenery throughout the home (like the beautiful display behind the glass kitchen cabinets) soften the space and make it feel much more approachable and tone down the drama of the stark black and white. This space is nominated (well deservedly so!) in Australia's 2013 Houses Awards - check out the full list to see some of the amazing Australian design talent on the scene at the moment in past and present nominees.
