The powerful and impactful transformation of one coat of paint is no newsflash. Any good decorator or avid DIY-er could tell you as much, and likely already have many times over. But like with most well known sayings, while it may be a bit of a clique it is also all too true. Colour has a huge impact on our psychology and how we feel in a space and choosing a paint colour can be one of the biggest decisions in setting the tone for a space.
During a long hard winter being cooped up at home, we've often had lots of time to scrutinize the details of our homes and think about what changes we'd like to make in the space. Spring is always the perfect opportunity for this fresh start and also, for a fresh coat of paint. Once the air is warm enough, it's time to throw open those windows and get the paint brushes out. While the notion of a paint transformation often conjures up the idea of entire rooms or walls being taken over by a single new colour, lately I've been quite inspired with some of the more creative and artistic ways that people are using paint to create big impact and also, subtle details.
These bright faceted walls by artist Lothar Götz bring high drama and a lot of impact to this space. I'm not sure I'd love living in this full-on room all day, but one dramatic feature wall could be a fantastic and impactful way to make a statement and add some inexpensive art to a space.
Subtle, hidden details
I loved the fun and fresh makeover of Oh Joy!'s studio which she collaborated with designer Emily Henderson on. The space has all white walls but is filled with pops of colour throughout. They cleverly used bright painted details below the kitchen cabinets to really make the space pop! I love this less obvious use of colour in unexpected places.
A dramatic entrance
We all know the impact of a brightly coloured front door to boost the curb appeal of a home, but why not use that same idea indoors as well? I loved this simple and clever DIY project shared by Claire from the creative team at Camille Styles. A simple grey and white chevron pattern adds a big statement to a simple white door and painting just the edge of the door in a bright bold shade really kicks things up a notch! How cute would this be for a children's bedroom?
