A pearlescent look can easily be translated into the home and can be used to transform and finish a space. The advantage of decorating with accents such as these, is they can appear both simple and natural as well as sophisticated, depending on how you pair them with other pieces and colors. To achieve this look, it is important to stick with the fundamental, soft colors that can be found in both the oyster and its pearl.
Beautiful taffetas and silks can achieve the same luster and shimmer, and can be striking, made into curtains, footstools, pillows, and even paneling on a wall. If you prefer a more understated look, a pearl trim can be added as a finishing detail to a simple pillow or candle. You can also create a pretty wall treatment with paint, such as Ralph Lauren’s Candlelight series in “Pearl” or “Oyster”.
One of my own favorite ways is with warm-toned and translucent Capiz light fixtures. If you haven’t seen one, you will be amazed at their natural and delicate beauty. They can soften an ultra-modern look, and add an element of pattern and interest, simply by hanging delicately above a table, (such as image 06) or compliment beautiful and ornate furniture in a more traditional space.
